YOU DON'T NEED A FOUR YEAR DEGREE
TO MAKE A LIVING

We believe your path to a successful and rewarding career should begin as early as high school. Exploring the skilled trades through Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes in high school is a powerful way to uncover your interests and identify opportunities that lead to real careers—not just jobs. Talk with your CTE teachers, school counselors, and local union representatives to learn about different trades, apprenticeship programs, and the benefits of a union career. Ask about opportunities to visit job sites, tour training centers, or shadow skilled professionals to see firsthand what a day in the life of a tradesperson looks like. Many union-sponsored programs offer paid, hands-on training where you earn while you learn. With the right support and a clear pathway, you can graduate with direction—and step confidently into a well-paying, high-demand career in the skilled trades.

Discover Your Future in the Trades

The High Schools to HardHats initiative bridges the gap between education and the skilled trades by connecting students to union-backed apprenticeship programs through their high school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. Delivered via the High Schools to Helmets app, this program empowers students, parents, and educators with clear career guidance, hands-on experience, and access to well-paying, stable careers—like electricians, plumbers, ironworkers, and more. By fostering local talent and partnering with unions and community leaders, we ensure students gain valuable skills while building a stronger, more resilient workforce.
